Something bit me!

RVers are known for their love of the outdoors and the social community that comes with it. However, one thing that can always put a damper on a good time is the presence of mosquitos. These pesky insects are a constant annoyance and can quickly ruin a fun evening. While we can’t control the invention of an ultimate mosquito elimination device just yet, there are still steps we can take to manage them. From using insect repellent to wearing long-sleeved clothing, there are plenty of practical tips to follow. And while they might not completely eradicate mosquitos, they can help make outdoor evenings more enjoyable for everyone.

  • Mosquitos are most active during early morning hours and just before the sun goes down.  If you are going out during these times, be proactive by making sure you have repellant.
  • Keep your grass mowed and avoid letting your gardens get overrun with weeds.  Mosquitos love to congregate in those types of areas.
  • Eliminate standing water areas.  Standing (stagnate) water areas are nesting grounds for mosquitos.
  • Make a garden of naturally mosquito repelling plants.
  • Treat your lawn, bushes, and trees with mosquito killing / repelling insecticides.  A big word of caution here.  Read labels and utilize them responsibly.  Some pesticides can be effective but can also be harmful to pets and children.  Others are made up of natural ingredients and are safe for pets and children.
  • Call in a professional for periodic treatments.   There are no permanent solutions but there are effective, short-term solutions that can provide temporary control while you are using your outside area.
